The Mining Town of Duvik's Pass, a small mining town nestled away in the Serpentcoil Mountains. Its main commerce being the Silver mine where the town folk labour away day after day to make an honest living.
It is on a cool late spring afternoon in this small town within the Inn of the Drunken Wench we find ourselves.
The Inn is dark and dank, the best ale on offer normally comes with a bit of "local flavour" as the pale looking innkeep spits into each mug he cleans casting an eye over his four patrons. Each sitting at an individual table slowly mulling over a pint in silence except from the occasional cough from the innkeep.
Suddenly the Inn door swings open and a male figure stumbles through the door way and collapses to the floor, the biggest of the patrons rises to his feet and rush's over to the collapsed body.
Immediately asking the man what is the matter the man feebly raises his hand to the big mans face and faintly says "Help me!" before passing away. The only female patron then rushes over to offer assistance, excitedly announcing that she was a cleric and could possibly help but quickly realises that his time has passed and there’s nothing she can do.
Confused by this occurrence another of the patrons turns to the Inn keeper and asks what’s happening here. The Innkeep looks at the thin wirey patron and responds "Oh that! That’s just another victim of the Black Plague; most of the towns got it." Upon hearing this the biggest of the patrons suddenly steps away from the dead body and begins to prod it with the blunt end of his glaive.
On further conversations with the Inn Keep the patrons learn that the plague appeared weeks ago and has slowly been killing off the towns residents one by one. It’s believed that what ever the cause it has infected the towns water. It’s at this point that one of the patrons then realised that not only did the Inn Keeper looked unwell but there was also a good chance that they themselves may already be infected.
Between them they decide that it would be a good idea to investigate this illness to see if a cure can be found before their own lives are consumed by it. The Innkeep suggests the Silver mines as a location as it was the miners that were the first to fall ill so the cause must be there. He mentions the chief miner’s wife may have a map if they can persuade her to give it up.
Armed with an agenda, each of the patrons introduces themselves to their fated companions; the largest of them is Ox the warrior, Govan announces he is a user of the arcane arts and motions to the female admitting that he can sense she to is of the magical persuasion. Maria confirms that she is a Cleric of the travel deity "Fharlanghn"; this left the other two shadowy strangers. Ivan the mercenary and Leonid the acquirer of valuable items.
The group headed to see the chief miners widow to see if they could acquire a map of the mine. Govan with his high charisma was trying to charm her into it while Leonid and Ivan tried to slip around the back, break in and pinch the map as they had grew tired of the old woman’s ramblings.
Leonid managed to pick the lock to the back door and silently made their way in but whilst they were creeping around looking for the map, Govan had managed to succeed in charming the old bat and she came back into her house to get the map.
In a mad panic Leonid dived behind a chair whilst Ivan tempted fate and hid behind a coat rack. Against all the odds the old women didn’t noticed them at all and as she returned to the group outside her home Ivan slipped out quietly, Leonid on the other hand managed to bump into a bit of furniture on the way out but was just quick enough to dive out the back door before the old women shuffled round to see where the noise came from.
Now armed with a map the group head to the mine entrance.
