“I don’t understand..why?” said Ox as the party stood in long narrow empty room. “Why have a door to a corridor when is then a dead end!” he proclaimed.
“Unless it’s not a dead end?” Suggested Ivan, at that
thought both Ivan and Leonid set about searching the area for any concealed
doors, after a short period of searching a concealed door was found at the end
of the corridor but it appeared to be trapped.
After a lengthy discussion it was decided that Ox would not
attempt to open the door and dodge the trap just because he has muscles doesn’t
mean it wouldn’t hurt a little. Instead Leonid pulled out his thieves tools and
starting poking around with the traps mechanism and just at the moment Leo
thought he had figured the trap out and was about to disable it he accidentally
set it off instead.
With the sound of metal scraping on stone an extremely large
and sharp scythe came swinging down and across the door, Leonid only just
managed to jump out of the way loosing only a couple of hairs from his head
instead of his hands.
The trap now triggered meant the door was now safe to open
which was left to Ox. The room beyond was empty apart from some shackles and
bits of torture equipment that had been there decades judging by the state of
them.
As the party approached the next set of rooms a faint musty
smell started to become apparent to them the closer they got. Then just as they
walked past a cross section in the corridor they suddenly found themselves
ambushed by a large number of Troglodytes.
The party made a very “short” attempt at diplomacy as the
group of Troglodytes closed in on them but only as a ruse to give the party
time to get ready to spring into action.
The fight was close and drawn out as the group realised the
troubles of fighting within the confined spaces of the corridors as each
creature fell to their blades and spells one Troglodyte managed to escape and
run through a door further up one of the corridors whilst the party was too
pre-occupied to notice.
Once the skirmish was over, the group made their way up the
corridor to a point was a door in the wall in front of them and a door behind
them. Ox not one for being subtle at all attempted to open the door in front of
them only to find it locked.
Shortly after attempting to open the door a reptilian voice
could be heard from the other side of the door for which Govan translated.
“Whhhoooos goes there?” said the voice.
The group fell silent whilst trying to decide how to
respond; suddenly Govan raised a finger to indicate he had an idea.
“The intruders are dead, everything is safe!” Govan
responded in the reptilian tongue,
“Howss do we know thiss isss true?” The voice beyond
responded
“Because we say it is, now get out here and help us loot the
corpse’s!!” Demanded Govan
“WHO!! ARE YOU!! To orders your Chief!!!” Shouted the voice
and at the same time both doors flew open as another hoard of sickly
Troglodytes attacked the party. The fight was short as apart from the chief
every other creature was either badly wounded or critically ill.
Once the slaughter had finished the party took sight of what
they had done and told themselves they had no choice in that situation as they
searched for a safe place to rest and retire.
